Michigan-Washington game concession prices for beer, water a ‘crime,’ ‘outrageous’

While the Michigan Wolverines took an early lead on the Washington Huskies on Monday night in the College Football Playoff national championship, Houston’s NRG Stadium concession stand prices became a trending talking point.

Brett McMurphy posted photos of concession stand menus – and prices – to “X,” the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, and the Internet as reacted. Let’s just say you are paying for an experience.

Among the items on the menu:

  • Cheez-Its: $3.99
  • Rold Gold Pretzels: $5.95
  • Peanuts: $7.65
  • Bottled water: $6.95.
  • Domestic bottled beer: $12.65
  • Premium bottled beer $14.95
  • Premium draft beer: $16.55.

High prices for concessions at sporting venues is nothing new. Look no further than an Alabama basketball game.

Still, $16.55 for one beer does seem excessive. As you would guess, the reaction the post ranged from “outrageous” to an outright “crime.”

Here are some more:

  • Chips: $3.45
  • Greek Dog: $12.55
  • Specialty Dog: $12.89.

Here is a sampling of the replies:

“Bottled water being $6.95 is a crime.”

“$6 for a snack size pretzel is outrageous,” another person responded.

“Criminal,” another person wrote.

“That’s it. I’m staying home.”
